TJC Philosophy
With financial success comes an increasing need for personal financial planning and management. Information is abundant and even overwhelming; but, knowledge and know-how is scarce. The complexity of tax laws and financial instruments has made it nearly impossible for one to competently manage their own financial affairs without the help of one or more advisors. In addition, financial products and services have been sold and delivered piece-meal. Attorneys, accountants, stockbrokers, and insurance agents have typically worked independently and so the coordination has been left up to you.
Today, representatives of banks, brokerage firms, and insurance companies are using financial planning merely as a marketing tool to sell more investments and insurance. It is often a cookie cutter, or a one size fits all approach. True customization is lacking and so is objectivity. You wonder if you are really receiving sound, objective advice. Do-it-yourself financial planning and investing has also grown. It also has become a concept used by a number of companies to sell magazines, books, newsletters, and most of all mutual funds. But magazines and books written for the masses can hardly be considered a good substitute for a customized financial plan.
In summary, more and more people recognize the need for expert and objective financial advice. Rarely do they have the time, inclination, or expertise to do their own financial planning without help. What they want and need is a competent and trusted financial advisor whose focus is financial planning and management, not the sale of financial products. What they want is a different kind of advisor.
